Case study : industrial-scale implementation of a crack detection system for pressed metal sheets

CETIM (french CEntre Technique des Industries Mécaniques) provides companies in the mechanical industry with resources and skills to boost their competitiveness. Amongst its members, companies in the stamping/cutting sector are regularly confronted by cracks appearing in their stamped sheets. Eliminating defective items requires visual inspection and manual intervention by an operator on exit from production. CETIM developed a powerful detection tool, based on acoustic emissions. This enables real-time inspections of production runs and sensitive detection of items cracking during the stamping phase. Styrel's task was to turn this prototype into a marketable industrial-scale product.
